| Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) launched
in December 2005 is Government of India’s (GoI) reform oriented
approach for comprehensive and integrated urban development, initially
for 63 identified cities. Acknowledging the critical role of cities
in the country’s current economic context, JNNURM aims at
providing incentives to cities to undertake institutional, structural
and fiscal reforms to improve service delivery systems, boost local
economic performance and enhance quality of life. The Ministry of
Urban Development (MoUD), GoI has earmarked grants amounting to
approximately Rs. 50,000 crores for the implementation of projects
under the programme over a period of seven years
IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (IIDC)
has been involved with the Ministry of Urban Development in the
deliberations and preparation of the toolkits of JNNURM
IIDC is an empanelled organisation for the preparation of City
Development Plans (CDP), which is a mandatory requirement for obtaining
assistance under JNNURM
IIDC is currently involved in the preparation of CDPs for Asansol,
Guwahati and supporting PDCOR, JV of Government of Rajasthan and
IL&FS, for various cities in Rajasthan. In various other States,
IIDC is envisaging the role of comprehensive process management
and handholding for development and implementation of identified
projects under JNNURM
